The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2018 Semester 1
I have created a model house to represent my visit with Mr X and his wife. The reason I chose this media is because of the content of the discussion with the patient, and the commonality between them and my personal beliefs and experiences. As a retired couple, he and his wife spend a lot of time in their home, and it acts as the heart of their family life. Their home has always been central in their lives, but even more so now that he has become unwell. This is mainly due to the amount of time spent there and how family come to visit more often. I thought that a representation of the home was a fitting way to demonstrate the shift in perspective regarding life priorities after a terminal diagnosis. Mr X spoke about how family from around New Zealand and overseas have started to visit more frequently, much to their delight. Their home is small and humble, but warm, comfortable and filled with memories and shared experiences, which I could feel just from being present.
