The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2017 Semester 1
I chose to do a mixed-media-type piece in order to highlight several of the different aspects of Mr X's life. From Mr X I learnt that many palliative patients have had the ability to do the things that they love ripped from them…. Mr X's bed was surrounded by books and DVDs; however, the most important thing for him was his music … at this point, it was probably one of the few things that he had left to enjoy after everything else had been taken away.
I tried to relate each element back to X in order to represent the different aspects of his life and personality which we uncovered during our conversation: Roses: made from sheet music to highlight the importance of music in “keeping him going”; Vinyl record: The title of the record is “My Love/Don't Keep Me Hanging On” - I chose this to reflect the part of our discussion about euthanasia; Colour of the flowers: bright colours to represent his friendly and bright personality; Dove: to symbolise his desire for a peaceful death.
