The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2017 Semester 2
Watercolour is a beautiful medium with a relatively easy going style that doesn't require perfection but rather a more relaxed approach that embraces small hiccups. This was much like our patient's perspective on life. She was incredibly resilient with a very positive attitude towards her illness and tended to go with the flow and “take it one day at a time” rather than worrying any possible obstacles that may came further along into the future. Through my art I wanted to communicate some aspects of my visit. The lungs are the main visual image because this is what much of her life revolves around now. She has been a smoker most her life which lead to her developing COPD and lung cancer and hence the background of the picture represents her background of smoking. This sounds bleak but the lungs however contains the landscape that she mentioned many times to us with the view out over the harbour. This represents that on the inside she has a very positive outlook and doesn't seem to pay much attention to the problems affecting her lungs.
