The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2016 Semester 2
My artistic expression takes the form of a painting despite my absolute inexperience with painting. I chose to paint partly due to that fact, as it out of my comfort/talent zone and this was a prime opportunity to extend and develop myself. The central piece is a stylised version of Lady Justice. The blindfold shows the patients unwillingness to accept her terminal diagnosis. The snake is an allegory for the alternative remedies on which she has spent her lifesavings. The bunch of carrots in her hand and kale on the bench represents the smoothies she made during the interview and on which she outlined the health benefits. Although she believed in the power of alternative medicines she still adhered to her chemotherapy course represented by the scattered pills and bottle on the bench.
