About us
This project involved extensive analyses of Māori and non-Māori cancer incidence, mortality, stage at diagnosis and survival. It aimed to establish a baseline from which to evaluate the effectiveness and equitable impact of the cancer control strategy. Two comprehensive cancer chartbooks have been produced.
The first of these chartbooks “Unequal Impact: Māori and non-Māori Cancer Statistics 1996-2001” was released in May 2006. It presents summary tables of registrations, deaths, stage at diagnosis and survival disparities, as well as Māori and non-Māori statistics for specific cancer sites. It covers the period 1996-2001.

The second chartbook “Unequal Impact II: Māori and non-Māori Cancer Statistics by Deprivation and Rural-Urban Status 2002-2006” was released in August 2010. It updates the summary tables of Māori and non-Māori cancer incidence, mortality, stage at diagnosis and survival. It also presents Māori and non-Māori cancer statistics by neighbourhood socioeconomic deprivation, and by rural-urban status.
