Infectious disease research focuses on investigating human, animal, and environmental infectious diseases in Aotearoa. We focus on the impact of infectious diseases and adverse environmental factors on population health. A big part of our work is included in the Co-Search: COVID-19 Research Collaborative and END Rheumatic Heart Disease workstreams. Other areas include influenza, campylobacteria and food safety, meningococcal diseases, enteric diseases, zoonoses, housing and crowding infectious diseases, skin and soft tissue infections.
We partner with a wide range of stakeholders, institutions and communities beyond Aotearoa to collaborate on infectious disease issues of global significance. The programme is led by Professor Michael Baker and Dr Amanda Kvalsvig.
