BBMedSc, PhD
I completed both my BBMedSc and PhD at Victoria University of Wellington before undertaking a post-doctoral fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. My research during this time focused on the use of extracellular vesicles and small non-coding RNAs in the plasma as functional biomarkers for cardiovascular and metabolic disease. In 2017 I returned to Wellington and joined the University of Otago as a Lecturer in the Department of Surgery and Anaesthesia.
My current research interests include the use of extracellular vesicles and RNA as plasma biomarkers for risk stratification and prediction of response to therapy in patient groups, and their mechanisms of function in cellular models of disease. Working with surgeons based at University of Otago and Wellington Hospital as a part of the Surgical Cancer Research Group, I am involved in several projects investigating novel biomarkers in colorectal cancer.
