Abstract
This project is a further extension to the Diabetes Tracking Study, focusing on patients' ongoing experience of living with diabetes.
The ARCH team have worked with DIPEx International, a consortium of researchers in 12 countries who are currently building their own national patient experience databases. The Oxford University-based Health Experiences Research Group (HERG) has developed the UK site www.healthtalk.org which is managed by the DIPEx UK charity. This ARCH project successfully piloted the DIPEx methodology for recruitment, video recording, and analysis of a maximal variation sample of narrative interviews with around 30 patients between 2014 and 2017, and tested the acceptability to New Zealand patients of publication of excerpts on a patient experience website modelled on www.healthtalk.org
In 2023, an additional 12 interviews with Māori patients, conducted by a Māori interviewer, were collected and are being analysed. This brings the total number of interviews recorded to 41.
Further funding is being sought to develop a library of short video clips and related resources, in collaboration with a Māori health provider.
