Population Genetics is the study of genetical variation in natural and experimental populations.
Consideration of the processes altering this genetic variation and the patterns that these processes produce, provides much of the theoretical underpinning of evolution.
Work in this area ranges from studies of the way in which genetic variation is distributed in population of native animal and plant species (e.g., freshwater fish, marine snails and bull kelp), to mathematical modeling of the processes of evolutionary change (e.g., simulations of genetic drift in subdivided populations).
