Developmental Biologists aim to understand how a single cell, the fertilised egg, develops into a complex, multicellular organism that progressively acquires the form and function of its parents. Development, however, encompasses a much broader description of change, reflected in the research topics studied by members of our Zoology department.
Here, we use amphibians and fish to study embryonic development, metamorphosis, growth, reproduction and regeneration. We use a wide range of molecular biological and genetic techniques as well as cell biology and physiology to address key questions relating to these areas.
