Cabinet 13: Other Rail Systems
R. N. Clements and J. M. Robbins, The ABC of Irish Locomotives. London: Ian Allan, 1949.
This publication details all the locomotives in Ireland in service up to 1949. To the delight of rail enthusiasts, it gives numerical lists of engines, with classes and boiler types, the principal dimensions of C.I.E (Coras Iompair Eireann; Transport Company of Ireland) locomotives, including designers and building dates, and much more. Irish trains run on a gauge of 1,600 mm (5ft 3 in), although there have been smaller, private enterprises such as County Donegal Rail, which, at 125 miles was the longest narrow gauge system in United Kingdom. It closed in 1960.
