Iolo WilliamsIn 1958, the de Beers purchased from Iolo A. Williams his extensive working collection of minor 18th century verse and presented it to the University Library. Williams (1890-1962) also compiled bibliographies, wrote books on book collecting and had a strong interest in watercolours. This colourful, rather fine King Penguin edition of his Flowers of marsh and stream is a recent transfer into Special Collections. Dr Christopher de HamelChristopher de Hamel was recently back in Dunedin to receive an honorary doctorate from the University. While here, he donated his most recent publication on the Parker Library to Special Collections. From 1975 to 2000, he was employed at Sotheby's, where he was responsible for all sales of illuminated manuscripts. He is now Donnelley Fellow Librarian of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Dr Keith MaslenThe 18th century novelist Samuel Richardson was also a printer. Dunedin scholar Dr Keith Maslen has spent many years investigating the printing career of Richardson. His investigations have included Richardson's printing house operations, his customers and categories of work, his total output, and his use of decorative ornaments. This work, deemed a retirement project by Maslen, was published by the English Department in 2001. It was donated to the University Library with grateful thanks for the spirit of warm co-operation which has always characterized the working relationship between the Department and the Library.'
