In between Errant Heart, another Cleveland ‘French Romance’ title and the Malian Press issue of Elaine Wells’s Unkissed Bride, is Mary Moore’s Manuka Fire, which is set in ‘the lovely and peaceful surroundings of O’Kains Bay in New Zealand’ (blurb). Published as part of the Harlequin Library (firstly by Mills and Boon in 1974) and printed in Sydney, Worldwide used a photograph on the cover to evoke romance. A number of Australian pulp publishers also adopted photography for their covers. However, there was a strong reaction against it, with readers preferring the art-work that not only conveyed a less real world, but allowed greater freedom for fantasy.
