Renée – 1989
Renée's reflections, 'The Space Between', tells of a productive time during her tenure as Burns Fellow in 1989. Not only did she complete Jeannie Once, a play, but she had a launch of her first novel, Willy Nilly, and started another, which eventually became Daisy and Lily. For the first three months she stayed at a 'filthy' flat on Maitland Street, and then moved to a house in Montgomery Avenue, which was 'wonderful'. And in recognition of her Fellowship, she named her two kittens 'Robert' and 'Burns'.
